Haiku – Fly

This week’s haiku horizons prompt is “fly”. What stage are you at?

Birth
I wish I could fly
Soar above clouds and mountains
Be free as a bird

Youth
I’ve no time to stop
Much to do; so little time
If I could just fly…

Midlife
Commuting is hell
Hours of traffic daily.
If I could just fly…

Old Age
How time flies
So many regrets
Just one life

Death
Fly up to heaven
Let angels carry you home
I’ll see you again

Haiku – Basketball

This is what happens when I read Kwame Alexander’s The Crossover… I try and write haiku/ three line poems on basketball!

The pressure’s intense.
One point down. Clock ticking hard.

The shot’s out of reach…

A feint, spring forward
Dribbling close, taking off…

But the attempt’s flawed.

Hang my head in shame.
Dreams of major leagues shattered.

McDonalds beckons.

Haiku – Spider

Spider spins his web
Deceit piles upon deceit
Until elected.

Then, post-election
Buoyed by success and power
The real lies begin.

I have a strong feeling that one of my followers in particular will like this one… this one’s for you, Denis!

The Two-Minute Manager – 3

Another dose of management and leadership advice from the somewhat cynical mind of guest blogger, See Yi-Oh… Am starting to see where I’m going wrong…

Meeting etiquette

Never take minutes,
Except for the Chief Exec.
For them, anything.

Sit at table’s head
Dominate the meeting room
Keep all eyes on you.

Words can be weapons
But make your body language
First line of attack:

Fold your arms and scowl.
Whatever’s been reported
Extend the silence,

Draw out that silence.
Lessers will panic, back down,
Offer more for less.

Haiku – View

#1 – Pessimist
Walking the old beat.
Promised never to return.
Age shifts your viewpoint.

#2 – Optimist
The view from the bridge,
Youth’s promise refined by age,
Rewards the walker.

Haiku – Monkey

This week’s prompt is “monkey”… and it finds me in a bit of a silly mood. You’ve been warned!

#1
Pity brass monkeys.
Our measure of cold weather?
Freezing their balls off!

#2
Families are tough…
I’m not a monkey’s uncle,
Cuz he’s mine instead!

#3
Hard not to see work
As a mad, pooping, screeching
Monkey on my back

Haiku – Milk & Smooth

#1
Often overlooked,
The milk of human kindness
Smoothes out life’s furrows

#2
Milk of the poppy,
Smooth, soft, anaesthetising,
My velvet cocoon

#3
White Russians:
Like a hand grenade
Wrapped in silk

#4
Cream rises always
To the top of the carton
Ascent isn’t smooth

#5
Flawless, milky skin
Round eyes, soft lips, tender heart…
And legs she killed for

Limerick – Aspire

When life’s keeping you in the mire,
But you’re determined to go ever higher,
The secret, it seems,
Is held in your dreams,
And all you need do is aspire.

Written for https://mindandlifematters.wordpress.com/2016/02/12/limerick-challenge-week-7-aspire/#like-1964

There is a 60-metre tall sculpture at the University of Nottingham, called “Aspire”. It has been likened to an ice cream cone, or a dream catcher. I rather like it…
