Limerick – Dreams

Beware of living your dreams
It isn’t quite what it seems…
When you’re struggling to run
From a currant bun
And flying custard creams!

For an insight into my dreams – a couple of days ago, my wife woke me, and the first thing I said was, “why don’t more sausages have cheese in them?”…

Limerick – Nerds Unite!

I wrote this in reply to Dr Meg’s trekkie haiku (check it out – http://drmegsorick.com/2016/03/14/power-a-limerick/)… thought I’d share it on here! 🙂

There’s a power of which I’ve heard,
Some dismiss as simply absurd.
They take them for granted,
Taking advantage,
But there’s power in being a NERD!

This also fits with the weekly limerick challenge prompt of “power” – https://mindandlifematters.wordpress.com/2016/03/11/limerick-challenge-week-11-power/

Limerick – One Man and His Shed

I wrote this as a comment on Le Fragi’s collection of shed-based limerick fun – http://graemesandford.com/2016/03/04/shed-a-little-light-limericks/ – , but thought I’d post it here too!

A man so desperately loved his shed
That he wanted to take it to bed.
The shed said, “I’m shy”
With a wink in its eye.
“But just you wait till we’re wed!”

Limerick – Birth

On the wonderful day of your birth
I was the happiest person on Earth
Now you teach me each day
In your own special way
How much this life truly is worth

Limerick – Lost

#1 – For laughs
In a land all covered in frost
Two explorers were counting the cost,
As they ploughed through the snow,
With no clue where to go,
Because they refused to admit that they’re lost!

#2 – Playing it straight
The fearless crew were tempest-tossed
By foaming seas where hope was lost.
On an island, their hardy ship shattered
Leaving them bloodied, bruised and battered;
They survived, but what was the cost?

Limerick – Aspire

When life’s keeping you in the mire,
But you’re determined to go ever higher,
The secret, it seems,
Is held in your dreams,
And all you need do is aspire.

There is a 60-metre tall sculpture at the University of Nottingham, called “Aspire”. It has been likened to an ice cream cone, or a dream catcher. I rather like it…

Limerick / Valentine's Countdown – 7

This week’s limerick prompt from Mind and Life Matters is “feral”…

A cartoon character called Beryl
Was always but one step from peril
She claimed to be brave
But just misbehaved
Acting decidedly feral!

(Beryl the Peril was a longstanding character in British comics – a female equivalent of the better-known Dennis the Menace)

I’m also doing a Valentine’s Day countdown here, so thought I’d try a limerick on that theme too…

It’s been said that the feeling of “love“,
Long-argued when push came to shove,
Is no more
Than a dull metaphor…
But it fits like a hand in a glove!
