OctPoWriMo #23 – The Power of Words

All of this has been said before
All will be said again.
There’s nothing new left to say
Between thought and pen

26 letters, mixed together
In idle combinations.
The basis of our language
Rests on slim foundations

But the right word, at the right time
Has a certain magic.
A nudge here, a shift there
And we move from comic to tragic

And even the greatest of words
Still have to be felt in the heart.
So, thank you for this connection.
Thank you for playing your part.

Today’s prompt was thinking about the greatness and smallness of things in comparison to each other, and about how small things fit as pieces to a whole.

Freedom (poem)

Freedom to fly, on wings made of dreams
Always believing life’s more than it seems

Freedom to walk, toes squelched in the earth
Aiming to rise above our own birth

Freedom to dance, with smiles on our hips
The courage to write and rewrite life’s script

Freedom to fail, and flourish, and thrive,
Daring to do more than simply survive

Freedom is knowing that one day we’ll die,
But living before, with heads held up high

Written for OctPoWriMo Day 5 – a re-drafted version of an earlier poem on the theme of “freedom”

Where Magic Lies (poem)

Eyes lock
Lean in
Second’s pause
Worlds spin

Flesh tingle
Hearts pound
Lips lock
Doubt downed

Heart’s plans
Come undone
There was two.
Now, one.

This is today’s contribution to OctPoWriMo – a challenge to write a poem a day during October. Today’s prompt was “magic”.

Unabashed Love Poem

Your eyes are pure poetry,
Your smile a song.
Your kiss is a chorus
We both sing along.

Every moment with you
Stokes my heart’s fire
Raises my soul up
Lifting me higher

Your laughter is lyrical
Your touch is divine
My heart is yours:
Will you be mine?

Your eyes are pure poetry,
Your smile a song.
Your kiss is a chorus
We both sing along.

Haiku Challenge – Tears & Wine

This is my contribution for Ronovan’s weekly haiku challenge – check it out here https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/09/07/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-61-tears-wine/ . The prompt words really spoke to me – I have constructed a whole narrative haiku poem around them. You may relate… I hope that you enjoy.

Cocktails at the bar.
Easy silence; lustful looks.
Tearing off of clothes.

The smell of your nape,
Your strawberry wine kisses
Take me to that place.

A brutal goodbye
(Is there any other sort?)
That night in the bar.
You left me a broken man,
Sobbing, shoeless, in the street.

Words tore through my heart
With the butcher’s finesse.
Vino veritas

Tears soak my pillow
Seeking the bottle’s comfort
No salvation there

Set aside the drink,
Believe in yourself again.
No more tears for her

Summer breeze carries
A scent of strawberry wine
Bringing fresh promise

Haiku Challenge – "Pen"

This is my contribution to TJ’s household haiku challenge, on the theme of “pen”. I wrote a couple on the theme of the pen being mightier than the sword, but this one is my favourite. Hope you enjoy it 🙂

With this pen…
A thousand love songs
Heat-forged in stars’ hearts; scattered,
Caught by me, for you

Haiku Challenge – "Lock" & "Gab"

This is Ronovan’s latest haiku challenge, with the prompt words “lock” and “gab”. https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/06/15/haikuchallenge-49-ronovanwrites-lock-gab/ I wrote a huuuuuge pile of love haiku at the weekend that I’m publishing here each day, and it seems that the theme of love has seeped into these too…

The Princess and the Toad
A garrulous toad
Unlocks the princess’s heart
But he’s not a prince

The Love That Dare Not Speak
I don’t have the words
For love that dares not whisper
Lock down all feeling

The gift of the gab
Is my route to your riches
A forbidden love?
