OctPoWriMo #29 – The Last Leaf

Winter’s winds are coming,
Friends scattered on the breeze.
I remain here stoic:
The last leaf on the tree.

I’ve clung on for so long,
It’s all I know to do.
Life has lost all meaning
Without my dear love true.

I’m browning at the edge,
The green is draining fast.
Summer’s strength is fading.
How long will I last?

I’ve withstood many storms
But no more can resist.
The final wind is coming.
I hope I will be missed

    1. Ha ha! I haven’t seen that in a long time… that reminds me of the board meeting suicides sketch, with accountants on the third floor casually observing the bodies of senior managers leaping to their deaths from the office windows above… for some reason, I think of that often at work!

  1. Well… as usual! Perfect πŸ™‚
It’s funny, because today as I was walking home from work, I saw a fallen leaf and somehow, that one spoke to me even more than the others around it, so I picked it up. Maybe I’ll get to write about it tomorrow πŸ™‚

      1. Oh, I doubt it! There were plenty of leaves on the ground, though most from different trees. I’m not sure I’ll get to write about this today… I have other ideas πŸ™‚

  2. What an incredible poem and from a different perspective. I really love it. I am quite mesmerised by Autumn leaves. I feel their leaves are filled with such secrets and stories, observations and remind me of my grandmother’s hands.

  3. The last leaf – the one that is perhaps the most persistent….the never-quitting, not giving-up leaf….even though the end is near….Such a lovely poem……Have no words to praise it…..!
