When The Zombie Came To Call (poem)

When the zombie came to call,
There was no answer at 56.
54 ignored it, thinking
Ethan up to his tricks.

52 said “no thank you”
Without opening his door.
Number 50 didn’t respond
(She can’t hear anymore)

48 through 42
Had all gone into town
40 had just got out of the bath
And was in her dressing gown.

Not a one even noticed
The zombie on their drive,
Taking for granted the pleasure
Of simply being alive.

And that was how it continued
For most of the rest of the day.
Life can be awful lonesome
For a zombie who just wants to play

Haiku Challenge #46 Think & Fresh part 2

A second crack at this week’s haiku challenge – https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/05/25/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-46-think-fresh/

Spring
Where’s my blue shirt gone?
I think that’s her favourite.
In laundry. Smells… fresh…

Summer
Her scent on the air.
I think she could be the one
Falling afresh, fast.

Autumn
Fresh table flowers
Make me think of our first date.
And how it ended

Winter
Fresh start is needed
But can’t stop thinking of her.
So full of regret

Haiku Challenge #46 Think & Fresh

Having entered for the first time last week and been blown away by the friendly community around this (and Ronovan’s detailed, and generous, review of all entrants), I’m back for more… Here are two haiku for Ronovan’s weekly haiku challenge – https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/05/25/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-46-think-fresh/

This week’s word prompts are “think” and “fresh

Out of his depth
Fresh-faced college boy
Thinking he’s out of his depth
Takes swimming lessons

Fresh-faced college boy, thinking he’s out of his depth
Thinking he’s out of his depth, takes swimming lessons

Two become one become…
I end. You begin.
I think it and you say it.
Fresh perspective sought.

I end. You begin. I think it and you say it!
I think it and you say it. Fresh perspective sought.

Slugs on Broadway (poem)

I’m a low-down dreamer
My dreams are so big…
But if life is a tree
Then I’m just a twig

I want to make my mark
Not just leave a trail
Not be mistaken for
An ugly old snail

But I’m a slug, right
Don’t want no bug fight
Just want a hug to-night

I want to be a star
The only one to beat
Standing tall
On my own one feet

But I’m a slug, right
Don’t want no bug fight
Just want a hug to-night

I’m underneath this hedge
But dreaming of those nights
Sliming down the red carpet
With my name spelt out in lights

Cuz I’m a slug, right
Don’t want no bug fight
Just need a hug,
to
night

Out of Office Autoreply Haiku #2 (poems)

Paternity leave messages
Emails. Wait in
Inbox festering while I
Change baby nappies

Out of the office
Changing new baby nappies
Elbow deep in poo

Wife just had baby
Will we ever sleep again?
Please don’t answer that

The dramatic
A forlorn inbox.
A message flashes to life.
Ping! Silence again

The braggart
Picture this and weep:
White sand beach, azure waters,
A palm tree. And me

The pessimist
Insert generic
Out of office message text
For no one to read

The honest
At work, but busy
Using this to filter chaff
Call me if urgent

The geek
Not in the office
Will reply upon return
Valar dohaeris

In my underwear
Watching Game of Thrones boxset.
Winter is coming

Zombie Poems #1

The Zombie Chorus
Brains, brains, brains
They are so good to eat
Full of Omega-3
They’re such a tasty treat!

Zombie Flash Fiction Haiku
Undead rise. Got bit.
Infection spreading. Blackness.
I’m alive!… urrrr… brains…

Zombie Limericks
There once was a zombie from Hull
Whose wits were exceedingly dull
He stuttered and stumbled
As he groaned and he grumbled
But then he only had half a skull!

There once was a zombie from Rhyl
Who so loved to savour her kill
She’d chew every bite
Through day and night
It gave her a tingly thrill!

Pitch and Time #2 (poem)

There is a weekly haiku prompt challenge on the Ronovan Writes blog which I follow (you can check it out here: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/05/18/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-45-pitch-time/ ).

The theme this week is “pitch and time”. A couple of days ago I posted my first effort for this challenge (https://altheauthor.wordpress.com/2015/05/18/pitch-and-time-poem/), but have got a little obsessed with it in the meantime!

Here are three more entries, in differing styles:

Pitchforks at dawn
Angry pitchfork mob!
Nothing left for me here.
Time to move on out

Angry pitchfork mob! Nothing left for me here.
Nothing left for me here. Time to move on out.

Love begins?
Help me pitch a tent?
It’s been far too long a time.
Her eyes said the rest.

Help me pitch a tent? It’s been far too long a time.
It’s been far too long a time. Her eyes said the rest.

Love denied
In the pitch-black night,
He thought he’d found his true love…
It wasn’t his time.

In the pitch-black night, he thought he’d found his true love.
He thought he’d found his true love… it wasn’t his time

Slug Poems

You were promised slug poems, and slug poems is what you’ve got! Two of them!

Slug Poem #1
A tired snail
Slimes for home across the lawn.
“I’m feeling slugg-ish

Slug poem #2
On a slow news day
In the ‘hood beneath the leaves

All is peaceful, still.
In this slimy den of thieves.

BANG! A shot rings out
Resounding through the ghetto

(It’s a salt rifle…
Deadly as a stiletto)

Mums weep slug tears
A young life stopped in its tracks

… Slug Life

Pitch and Time (poem)

There is a weekly haiku prompt challenge on the Ronovan Writes blog which I follow (you can check it out here: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/05/18/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-45-pitch-time/ ).

The theme this week is “pitch and time”. This is the first time I’ve entered this… hopefully this will become a regular thing.

PITCH AND TIME

I pitch for your heart
On my knees, making love’s case.
Running out of time.

I pitch for your heart on my knees, making love’s case.
On my knees, making love’s case. Running out of time

Out of Office Autoreply – Haikus (poem)

Feel free to use any of these out of office messages next time you’re away from our desk…

The polite:

Apologies, friend.
I am currently elsewhere.
Reply on return.

Thanks for your message.
I’m out: try my boss instead.
On, the wheel turns.

The honest:
Enjoying rare peace,
Reading on a sunny shore.
Is it important?

Look, I’m finally
Taking a few days respite.
Please recall message

The philosophical:

If an inbox pings
In middle of the forest,
Is it heard… No

Pebble pings surface
Ripples rise, spreading outwards
Then fresh calm returns

The “I’m leaving” comments:
I.T. won’t wipe this
For ages. Useless eejits.
Have left for more cash

Ha! Too late, sucker!
This bird has flown the nest, gone.
Will you be the next?

I’m stabbed in the back.
Steve and Nicky ambushed me.
Don’t believe their lies.

I will be avenged!
Cry havoc at my sacking:
Loose the dogs of war!

Leaving Planet Earth.
Time for a new home. So long.
Thanks for all the fish

🙂
